Knowledge & Technology

Mondo Pavimenti has selected indoor and outdoor industrial floors with only one goal: quality. The industrial floor is the ideal solution for the many chemical, food and healthcare fields. Industrial flooring generally has very definite and special requirements, closely related to the production of goods and to specific work activities. An industrial area must be able to handle heavy loads and chemical products. Generally, they need to be hard-wearing, resistant to tension and deformation caused by the transit of heavy concentrated and/or distributed loads. The solutions are customised to best communicate the functions of this floor in production areas. The best solutions must be identified according to the intended use (food, logistics, chemical, mechanics, outdoor loading yards, cold stores, parking facilities…).

Types of Flooring:

The klinker is an extruded tile with a high resistance for an intensive use. Its surface characteristics have a high chemical and mechanic resistance, making them great for the application of any kind of surface subject to high stress with high aesthetic quality, resistant and durable finishes. The industrial klinker is specified for concentrated loads because the tile distributes the load on the ground. Tiles are up to 18 mm thick, with the action of three geometric characteristics: the dovetail tile bottom increases the bond between adhesive and tiles; the bevelled edges increase resistance to impact of vehicle wheels and industrial forklift trucks; the chamfered side maximises adhesion of the edges with the material used for spackling. The extrusion system makes it possible to produce special pieces in 3D for joints with floors and walls, corners, edges, and skirting. The klinker tile can be used for floor and wall coverings for a smooth transition between the horizontal and vertical surface. The joints are sealed with a specific material (epoxy grout) that can withstand chemical agents (depending on the intended use), is totally non-absorbent, easy to clean, a uniform colour, stain-proof and very hard.

Porcelain Stoneware

The porcelain stoneware is fully vitrified and unglazed. It can be used for floor and wall coverings and is the ideal solution for major transit areas, subject to high physical and chemical stress. It is also appropriate for residential architecture, where the robustness of the material is perfectly blended with a fine aesthetic.

Suitable for wet, dry and damp environments (in the specific surface), it is available in several surface finishes. The whole range of colours, formats and special trims give architects and designers as much freedom of choice as they like. Porcelain stoneware is a great option for every design solution, for the more original constructions of modern architecture through to the restoration of classic buildings, because it is high-tech, easy to install and low-maintenance.

Industrial, commercial, public areas and the like are the “litmus test” of floors and wall coverings: stress in these areas reaches very high levels. And it is in these extreme conditions that porcelain stoneware comes into its own, showcasing its exceptional hard-wearing and low-maintenance. Acids (except hydrofluoric acid), solvents, oils, cement and chemical substances do not alter its structure and appearance at all; static and dynamic heavy loads, walkover, constant vibrations and shock cannot break or scratch it; damp, frost, fire, abnormal temperature ranges do not affect it in any way. With the right thickness and surface finish, porcelain stoneware is suitable for industrial use and it is also an optimal and aesthetically valid solution in many fields of manufacture, offices, laboratories, industrial and civil building services (airports, hospitals, shopping centres).

Porcelain stoneware is the ideal solution for all industrial areas and laboratories where particular resistance to corrosive acids, bases and agents is required. Resistant to acids, the tests carried out in accordance with the UNI EN ISO standard assure total resistance to chemical attack, except hydrofluoric acid that attacks all ceramic materials. Easy to clean, it is ideal for those industrial fields that are subject to strict hygiene requirements. Tiles are completely impermeable, which means they are stain-proof, and bacteria and mould can be easily removed. The surface and body of the tile are identical, making them scratch-resistant. This has positive effects on both performance and durability of the tiled surface. Even when long-term use causes the removal of the surface layer, the exposed surface is the same, so it doesn’t affect the aesthetics and function of the floor or wall covering.

The different thicknesses available up to 14.2 mm offer the excellent ultimate tensile strength that cannot be achieved with other materials. Floor joints are sealed with a specific material (epoxy grout) that can withstand chemical agents (depending on the intended use), is totally non-absorbent, easy to clean, a uniform colour, stain-proof and very hard.

Thin, seamless flooring and wall coverings

The thin, seamless flooring and wall coverings (also known as resin floors and walls) are suitable for industrial areas of all kinds and stand out from traditional flooring because they have no joints. The absence of joints ensures a seamless floor that facilitates the transit of anything on wheels (from small work trolleys to large forklift trucks). The solutions are customised to meet whatever resistance specifications are required (mechanical strength, abrasion, chemical), and countless colour combinations are available. Suitable for any industrial use..

Fields of application

In the food industry, floors play an important role, namely, they must be corrosion-resistant to chemical cleaning products and impermeable to them as a consequence.

Hygienic and easy to clean so they don’t trap dirt..

Floors with drainage systems so chemical agents or excess fluid from food drain away.

Floors must also be odour-free to be considered hygienic..

Floors in the chemical industry must be impermeable to the chemical agents used in production, as well as resistant to corrosion and oil, be abrasion-resistant, easy to clean and sanitise. Resistant to scratching and heavy loads.

The public sector includes schools, retirement homes, hospitals, etc…

This type of floor must not retain anything to avoid build-up of dirt and dust.

These floors are perfect for use in hospitals because although comfort and aesthetics are a must, they are easy to sanitise and have antibacterial properties. They are also resistant to frequent cleaning and disinfecting and retain their characteristics over time.

Last but not least, these floors have a wide range of finishes to make every area welcoming and comfortable.
